Do not count out the BYU women's basketball team just yet.
The Cougars will face the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the opening game of the WBIT.
Entering the matchup, BYU is seeking its first postseason win in five years. The Cougars now return to the Marriott Center with another opportunity to compete on their home floor.
They have been dominant at home this season, posting a 13-4 record inside the Marriott Center, and will look to use that to their advantage in the postseason.
Although BYU missed its shot in the March Madness Tournament, it ended the regular season with a lot of momentum.
They polished off the regular season with three straight wins and took down Houston and Utah in back-to-back games at the Big 12 Tournament.
When taking a look at the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, they have proven they can win on the road, and they will prepare to challenge the Cougars on their home court.
Sophomore standout Delaney Gibb will be a key player to watch for the Cougars. Gibb has been a consistent contributor throughout the season, making an impact with her scoring ability and defensive presence.
The matchup could come down to BYU’s ability to control the glass and limit second-chance opportunities. If the Cougars can dictate the tempo and capitalize on turnovers, they will put themselves in a strong position to advance.
Freshman guard Olivia Hamlin has also made a major impact for the Cougars this season. She has grown into one of BYU’s most consistent contributors on both sides of the floor.
Hamlin leads all Big 12 freshmen in steals, providing a defensive attack that turns takeaways into baskets.
On the other side, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs come with a balanced offensive attack. They are led by graduate student Kalia Walker, who averages over 14 points per game.
With postseason play underway and a home-court advantage on its side, BYU will look to take the next step and extend its season with a win on Thursday night.
