BYU women's basketball heads out to Tempe to take on conference rival Arizona State University on Wednesday night in the Desert Financial Arena.
As the regular season winds down, every game counts for the Cougars. They are on the bubble to fight for a bid in the 2026 NCAA tournament.
A win for BYU would boost its resume for a shot to be entered into the tournament, but ASU is in the same situation. Both teams are heading into this game with postseason hopes and goals on the line.
The Cougars are currently 7-9 in the Big 12, while the Sun Devils are 9-7.
ASU has the upper hand on BYU, but a win will give the Cougars more confidence, wrapping up the regular season at Colorado the following week before the Big 12 Championships.
This is the second meeting this season for the two teams. In January, BYU handed ASU its first loss of the season.
Sun Devils senior guard Marley Washenitz will be the main player to watch on that side of the court. Washenitz is coming off a hot performance in their win against Houston on Saturday.
Washenitz is consistently disrupting offensive drives as she leads the team in steals per game.
This will be a crucial focal point for BYU to start quickly and keep possession of the ball during offensive drives.
Getting a win on ASU’s home court will not be easy for BYU with their crowd and the emotional presence of celebrating their seniors on Wednesday night.
After sweeping Utah this season, adding ASU to that column would be huge for the Cougars.
