Three BYU softball players named to the All-Big 12 first team

The Big 12 announced its all-conference first team for softball Wednesday morning, and three BYU Cougars made the list.

Ilove'a Brittingham, Lindy Milkowski and Lily Owens led BYU's high-scoring offense to a successful second season in the Big 12, and were honored by making the all-Big 12 first team.

Not only did Brittingham make the first team, she was also named the Big 12's freshman of the year. She led the Big 12 in home runs (20) and RBI (67) in only her freshman season, and will be on the shortlist for player of the year next season.

Owens led the team with a run per game, and her season was highlighted by a walk-off RBI in extra innings to beat rival Utah in the first conference series between the two schools since 2011.

Milkowski was second in the Big 12 in home runs — only behind her teammate Brittingham — with 18 on the season.

All three Cougars played a huge role in BYU's breakout season, and will look to make some noise in the Big 12 tournament.

No. 6 BYU will face No. 11 Houston in the first round of the Big 12 tournament on Wednesday at 6:30 MDT.
