Starting receiver and All-American returner enters the transfer portal after two seasons at BYU

Three weeks after BYU wrapped up its spring practice, the Cougars have now potentially lost a major part of their offense.

Wide receiver Keelan Marion told On3 Sports on Friday that he will enter the transfer portal.

Marion transferred to BYU from UConn prior to the 2023 season and had a career year in 2024. He tallied 29 receptions and 346 yards as the Cougars' wide receiver No. 3.

Where he shined the most was as a kick returner, scoring two kick return touchdowns last season, the more memorable of the two being at Rice-Eccles Stadium in the Cougars' victory over rival Utah. Multiple outlets awarded him first team all-American as a return specialist.

This report comes as a shock to most, as Marion was slotted to take over Darius Lassiter's spot as the wide receiver No. 2, right alongside star receiver Chase Roberts. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff and many other coaches highlighted Marion's play in spring practice, and mentioned that he will have a major role in the Cougars' offense in 2025.

The next receivers up for BYU will be Parker Kingston, JoJo Phillips, Cody Hagen and Tei Nacua. Kingston and Phillips have a significant amount of experience, but filling in as the No. 2 receiver will be a big jump.
