Senior Bowl provides big stage for former BYU players Jack Kelly, Will Ferrin

Two former BYU players, defender Jack Kelly and kicker Will Ferrin, used the Senior Bowl stage to strengthen their draft stock, each showing skills that translated well against top competition from across the country.

Kelly, a linebacker who finished his college career at BYU after transferring from Weber State, stood out with his physicality and instincts throughout Senior Bowl practices.

He consistently diagnosed plays quickly, flowed to the ball, and showed comfort operating in space against running backs and tight ends. In a setting built for evaluators, Kelly’s ability to communicate, adjust alignments, and stay disciplined against misdirection drew attention. Kelly was named linebacker practice player of the week. During game action, Kelly flashed the downhill style that defined his BYU tenure.

Ferrin, BYU’s all-time leading scorer, approached the Senior Bowl with a different kind of pressure. For specialists, every rep matters, and Ferrin handled the moment with composure. He showed consistency in his approach, clean mechanics, and strong leg strength during kicking sessions, connecting from range and maintaining accuracy through changing conditions.

Ferrin’s reliability has long been his calling card, and that steadiness carried over in front of NFL decision-makers. Ferrin’s calm execution helped him quietly check important boxes.

Both players benefited from BYU’s reputation for producing disciplined, prepared prospects. Kelly’s leadership and physical style reflected the defensive identity he helped build in Provo, while Ferrin’s precision and consistency mirrored the dependability he brought to the Cougars’ special teams unit.

The NFL draft is scheduled for April 23–25 in Pittsburgh
