KANSAS CITY, Mo. — BYU continues play in the Big 12 Men's Basketball tournament tonight with a matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers at the T-Mobile Center.
The Cougars enter the game with a 22–10 overall record after defeating the Kansas State Wildcats 105–91 in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday night.
Freshman guard AJ Dybantsa led BYU with 40 points, setting a Big 12 Tournament record for the most points by a freshman, along with nine rebounds, six assists, and three steaks, helping the Cougars shoot 54.8% from the field in the win.
BYU, the No. 10 seed in the Big 12 Tournament, advances to face No. 7 seed West Virginia, which finished the regular season 18–13 overall and 9–9 in conference play.
The teams met earlier this season on Feb. 28 in Morgantown, where West Virginia upset BYU 79–71. In that game, the Mountaineers controlled the glass, outrebounding the Cougars 39–29 and grabbing 18 offensive rebounds, taking advantage of second chance opportunities.
Wednesday's matchup presents a quick turnaround for the Cougars as they look to build on their offensive performance from the first round. West Virginia enters needing a strong showing in the conference tournament to strengthen its NCAA Tournament résumé.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
