Niko Hales helps lead No. 6 BYU men's volleyball over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara

Coming off of a four-game losing streak, the BYU Cougars were able to dominate over UC Santa Barbara this weekend, gaining back momentum.

The 8-4 Cougars came out strong to start the face-off winning set one 25 - 11 ending the night with a sweep.

BYU swept UC Santa Barbra in both matches this weekend on Friday and Saturday night.

“When we put this schedule together we knew we would be going against all these teams …. If you would have told me January first with this team we would have this record I’d be very excited,” said coach Shawn Olmstead

A key to the Cougars' success Saturday night was the hitting. The team hit above .300 each set with a set high of .429 compared to the UC Santa Barbara’s high of .086.

BYU’s Niko Hales, a freshman out of Alexandria, Virginia, had a perfect hitting and serving game to bring home a win for the Cougars.

“It came down to our serve and pass earlier in the day we changed some things and that's when the hitting kinda changed and I feel like that transferred into the game tonight,” Hales said.

Up next BYU will play Concordia University Irvine on Feb. 13.
