BYU basketball is hosting Colorado on Saturday at 2 p.m. MST for the 25th overall meeting between the Cougars and the Buffaloes.
BYU looks to blow over the Buffaloes again for the third time in a row. The last meeting between the two took place on Jan. 21, 2025, and the Cougars came home with a win by a score of 83-67.
The meeting prior to that dates back to the end of 2016, which the Cougars beat the Buffaloes 79-71 and sent Colorado back to Boulder with a loss.
Colorado currently leads the all-time series with BYU 17-7 and BYU is looking to get out of a mid-season slump with a win on Valentine's Day.
Isaiah Johnson, the Colorado freshman guard, averages 16.1 points per game. Barrington Hargress is putting up 13.9 points per game along with 4.3 assists. In comparison, BYU’s star freshman, AJ Dybantsa averages 24.5 points per game with Robert Wright III recording 4.9 assists per game.
BYU’s “Big 3” combine for 61.2 points each game out of their team’s 86.3 each time they step on the court.
Colorado basketball is 14-11 on the season and 4-8 in the Big 12 , placing the Buffaloes in 12th place in the conference among 16 teams. BYU sits at No. 22 in the nation at 18-6, sixth in the Big 12.
BYU’s most recent win was a nail-biter against the Baylor Bears in Waco. The Cougars won 99-94 as Wright III was able to get a win amidst all the boos from his former fans. Dybantsa and Wright III played all 40 minutes of the game and combined for 66 of the 99 points. The Cougars’ bench produced four points.
Colorado’s last win was at home against Arizona State on Feb. 7 as the Buffaloes executed a good first half and held on to keep the win from the visiting Sun Devils.
The Buffaloes are currently on a one-game losing streak after a humbling 34-point loss to Texas Tech in Lubbock.
Can the Cougars put together a well-rounded first half and continue the push for a blowout win or will Colorado pull off a come from behind upset?
