The New Orleans Saints made history by hiring Kellen Moore as their next head coach, making him the second member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints currently coaching in the NFL, along with Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Moore was raised in a Latter-day Saint family in Prosser, Washington, where his faith played a significant role in shaping his disciplined and team-oriented approach to football. His strong foundation in family values has influenced both his career and lifestyle. He met his wife, Julie Moore, while attending Boise State University, where he played quarterback. The couple has two children.
Moore has an extensive winning background. As a quarterback at Boise State, he had a record-setting college career, finishing with a 50-3 record as a starter with 14,667 passing yards and 142 touchdowns.
In the NFL, he played as a backup for the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys, posting an 0-2 record as a starter.
Moore transitioned to coaching in 2019, serving as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (2019–2022). Under his leadership, the Cowboys led the NFL in total offense in 2019 and 2021, finishing with a 42-29 record in that role.
Moore will now work with BYU legend Taysom Hill and other LDS players, including tight end Dallin Holker and linebacker Nephi Sewell.
The Saints introduced Moore at a press conference on Feb. 13 at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center.
When asked about quarterback Derek Carr, Moore said, "Derek's a tremendous quarterback in this league. I have had so much respect for him, the journey that he's been on. He's a starter in this league. He's a premier player in this league."
However, Moore emphasized that all players will be evaluated at this time.
Moore also confirmed that he will call offensive plays for the Saints.
"We are in the process of evaluating everything," he said. "It's important to take the time to make informed decisions."
The Saints are hopeful that Super Bowl champion Kellen Moore, who led the Eagles to a 40-point performance against the Chiefs, can bring another Lombardi Trophy back to New Orleans.
