After one of the most memorable 48-hour news cycles in BYU athletics history, the college football world finally has an answer to where Kalani Sitake will coach next season.
On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Sitake has informed people that he intends to stay at BYU.
"BYU coach Kalani Sitake has begun to inform people that he intends to stay at the school," Thamel reported. "BYU is in the process of putting together a lucrative contract to keep him. He's been one of main targets at Penn State, which he informed of his decision to stay."
Earlier in the week, Thamel reported that Sitake was the main focus of Penn State's coaching search. Some outlets even reported that at one point, Sitake to Penn State was as good as done, barring a "miracle."
This led to meetings between Sitake and BYU athletics administration, and a large — and very public — push from donors to up Sitake and staff's salary.
No news has officially been released about what those numbers may be, and due to BYU not publicly disclosing its coaching salaries, that number could remain a mystery.
Sitake has coached at BYU since 2016, and holds a win-loss record of 83-44 in Provo.
On Saturday, BYU will play in its first Big 12 championship game when it faces off against Texas Tech in Arlington, Texas.
