'I’m coming home': Collin Chandler transferring from Kentucky to BYU

Collin Chandler, a former BYU basketball commit, is making his way home.

Chandler, who originally committed to BYU in 2021 while Mark Pope was head coach, did so prior to serving his mission in Sierra Leone.

While many Cougar fans hoped Chandler would keep his commitment despite coaching changes when Kevin Young took over, Chandler ultimately ended up following Pope in his move to Kentucky.

The 6-foot-5 sophomore guard averaged 9.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 41% from three this past year, but news of his entering the transfer portal hit the media on April 8.

With rumors previously circulating that the Farmington native was looking to return to his home state of Utah, many were divided on whether Chandler would transfer to the University of Utah or have a full-circle moment and return to BYU.

This buzz was confirmed when Chandler posted a graphic April 9 stating, “I am returning home and excited for the challenges ahead.”

Fortunately for the Cougars, on Saturday, Chandler announced his return to BYU in a collaborative graphic with BYU men’s basketball, writing, “I’m coming home.”

Chandler captioned the post “Cougar nation, let’s rock,” and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from BYU fans everywhere.

With his return, BYU not only regains a proven scorer, but adds a hometown talent ready to help shape the program’s next chapter.
