The indoor track season has come to an end for the BYU Cougars.
BYU was able to claim three NCAA national titles by two individuals. Freshman phenom Jane Hedengren took first place in both the 3000m and 5000m race and junior Carter Cutting took first place in the mile.
At the indoor NCAA championship, other BYU athletes were able to achieve All-American status.
First Team All-Americans consist of Hedengren in the 3000m and 5000m, Isaac Hedengren in the 3000m, Cutting in the mile, Riley Chamberlin in the mile, Ben Barton in the heptathlon, Tayvon Kitchen in the 5000m, and both men and women’s DMR teams.
Second team All-Americans consist of Creed Thompson in the 5000m, Zoey Bonds in the pentathlon, Sami Oblad in the 400m, Riley Chamberlin in the 3000m, Jenna Hutchins in the 3000m and Tayvon Kitchen in the 3000m.
Both men and women’s teams finished in the top ten at the NCAA championship. The men placed seventh and the women placed fifth.
On top of the national success by both men and women’s team, there were many additional feats accomplished on the records boards back home.
This season there have been many indoor school records broken and many more athletes place within the top ten of school standings.
Here is a list of school records broken throughout the indoor season on the women’s side:
Riley Chamberlin, a senior, broke the school indoor mile record and set a new NCAA record with a time of 4:20.61
Jane Hedengren, a freshman, broke the school 3000m record with a time of 8:34.98. She also broke the school’s indoor 5000m record and set a new NCAA record with a time of 14:44.79
Sami Oblad, a senior, broke the school’s 400m record with a time of 51.48.
Paje Rasmussen, a junior, broke two school records. She first broke the school’s 200m record, with a time of 22.91, then she broke the school’s 60m record running a 7.25.
In the women’s 4x400m relay, Paje Rasmussen, Marianne Barber, Sami Oblad, and Kali McEuen broke the school record with a time of 3:31.24.
Here is a list of school records broken throughout the regular indoor season on the men’s side:
Carter Cutting, a junior, broke the school’s indoor mile record with a time of 3:52.84.
Tayvon Kitchen, a freshman, broke the school’s indoor 3000m record with a time of 7:36.23
Ben Barton, a redshirt-senior, broke the school’s record for the heptathlon, with 6025 points.
Other notable feats of the season include top ten performances by many of the other athletes.
On the women’s side:
Riley Chamberlin placed No. 3 all-time in the 5000m
Jane Hedengren placed No. 2 all-time in the mile.
Jenna Hutchins placed No. 4 all-time in the 3000m.
Zoey Bond tied No. 3 all-time in the 60m hurdles. She also placed No. 6 all-time in the 55m hurdles as well as No. 4 all-time in the pentathlon.
Sami Oblad placed No. 4 all-time in the 200m. She also placed No. 10 all-time in the 800m.
Jacey Harkings-Farmer placed No. 6 all-time in the 5000m. She also placed No. 7 all-time in the 3000m.
Tia Brown placed No. 7 all-time in the 60m hurdles. She also placed No. 8 all-time in the pentathlon.
Nelah Roberts placed No. 9 all-time in the 5000m.
Lia Katoa placed No. 9 all-time in the weight throw.
Paje Rasmussen place No. 2 all-time in the 55m
Tessa Buswell placed No. 5 all-time in the 800m.
Marianne Barber tied No. 5 all-time in the 200m. She also placed No. 3 all-time in the 400m.
Kali McEuen placed No. 8 all-time in the 60m hurdles. She also placed No. 7 all-time in the 200m
Riley Chamberlin placed No. 3 all-time in the 5000m. She also placed No. 4 all-time in the 800m.
Jenna Hutchins placed No. 4 all-time in the 3000m.
Zoey Bond tied No. 3 all-time in the 60m hurdles. She also placed No. 6 all-time in the 55m hurdles as well as No. 4 all-time in the pentathlon.
Jacey Harkings-Farmer placed No. 6 all-time in the 5000m. She also placed No. 7 all-time in the 3000m.
On the men’s side:
Jonah Heimuli placed No. 8 all-time in the 400m.
Tayvon Kitchen placed No. 2 all-time in the 5000m.
Isaac Hedengren placed No. 3 all-time in the 3000m.
Logan Hubler placed No. 5 all-time in the 200m. He also placed No. 3 all-time in the 60m hurdle.
Creed Thompson placed No. 6 all-time in the 3000m.
Davin Thompson placed No. 10 all-time in the 5000m.
Noah Jenkins placed No. 9 all-time in the 3000m.
Brayden Packard placed No. 9 all-time in the 800m
Jaden Roskelley placed No. 5 all-time in the heptathlon.
Ben Barton placed No. 4 all-time in the long jump.
