The Minnesota Vikings did not set out to build a BYU reunion, but the roster now includes three former Cougars working to carve out roles at the next level.
Linebacker Sione Takitaki, edge defender Tyler Batty and offensive lineman Caleb Etienne each arrived in Minnesota through different paths, yet share a common foundation built during their time in Provo.
Takitaki brings the most NFL experience of the group. The former BYU defensive standout built his reputation on speed and physical play, traits that helped him stick in the league and now provide veteran depth to Minnesota’s linebacker unit. His ability to play multiple roles defensively gives coaches flexibility as the Vikings continue shaping their defensive identity.
Batty enters the league following a BYU career defined by effort and consistency. A team captain with the Cougars, he became known for setting the edge and playing through contact, often doing the work that does not always appear in the box score but earns trust from coaching staffs. Minnesota adds him as a developmental piece with upside along the defensive front.
Etienne strengthens the offensive line group after developing into a reliable blocker during his college career. His size and positional versatility give the Vikings options as offensive lines inevitably adjust throughout a long season.
NFL teams have increasingly leaned toward players coming out of Provo, valuing experience in structured systems and physical preparation at the college level.
Minnesota’s roster construction may be coincidental, but it shows BYU’s growing footprint in the NFL. Three former Cougars now share the same opportunity to prove they belong and continue extending the program’s presence on Sundays.
