Despite the unpredictability of No. 23 BYU's basketball season thus far, freshman star AJ Dybansta continues to turn heads and break school records.
In an 75-68 loss against Arizona, the No. 4 team in the country, Dybansta led the Cougars in their team’s scoring efforts with 35 points Wednesday night.
During the game, Dybansta broke two freshman scoring records, previously held by BYU basketball legend Danny Ainge.
Five minutes into the second half, Dybansta scored his 20th point, which broke Ainge’s record for the most games with at least 20 points scored by a freshman.
It marked Dybansta’s 19th game this season scoring 20 or more points.
Then with 10:51 on the clock in the second half, AJ scored point No. 25 of the game and No. 624 of the season. This feat surpassed Ainge’s record of the most points scored by a freshman in a season.

Dybanta has now played six games this season with 30 or more points scored.
As the season winds down, the Cougars only have five more games left in the regular season. Two of the games include No. 6 Iowa State and No. 13 Texas Tech, both will be played in Provo.
With senior guard Richie Saunders out for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL, the Cougars will rely on Dybansta to lead them the rest of the way.
