Two BYU women’s cross country runners, Riley Chamberlain and Jane Hedengren, have been named finalists for the Honda Sports Award.
The honor comes after both athletes turned in outstanding performances during the 2025 season.
Chamberlain, a senior, finished her BYU career on a high note. She placed fourth at the national championships with a time of 18:47.00. The race was more than 20 seconds faster than her previous best and earned her All-America honors for the second straight year.
Hedengren made a major impact in her first year of college running. The freshman finished second at nationals after winning every regular season meet. She also claimed both the conference and regional titles and set several course records throughout the season.
This is the first time since 2021 that BYU has had two women’s cross country runners named finalists for the Honda Award in the same year.
The nominations highlight the strength of BYU’s program and show that the team can develop both experienced seniors and talented newcomers who can compete at the highest level.
For Chamberlain, the recognition serves as a strong conclusion to her collegiate career. For Hedengren, it is an early sign that she is already one of the top runners in the country.
The winner of the Honda Sports Award will be selected through nationwide voting.
