The No. 23 BYU women’s volleyball got swept by Utah after winning the first two sets in Salt Lake City on Friday night.
The Cougars' hitting game was unmatched, but they could not keep up with Utah’s blocking game. BYU hit .299 while the Utes hit .268. Utah out-blocked BYU 14-8.
Suli Davis continues to put up big numbers in each game despite adding a loss to their losing streak. Davis had a career-high of 28 kills.
BYU led with ease throughout the first two sets. The Cougars came out swinging in the first set. They were leading by ten midway through the set to finish it off 25-17.
BYU maintained that same momentum as they moved into the second set, taking a timeout at 12-9. The Cougars continued to trail Utah before going on a 5-0 run to take the second set.
The Cougars could not seem to find a rhythm in set three. BYU trailed the Utes the entire set, finishing 25-21.
BYU tried to bring back the energy in set four with a 14-11 lead. After several errors, the Cougars and the Utes were tied 20-20.
The Utes went on a 5-0 run to take the set 25-21 once again. This forced the Cougars to head into a fifth set.
The Utes controlled the fifth set. The Cougars were unable to put up consecutive points to take the lead, resulting in a reverse sweep, 15-12.
BYU's Claire Little-Chambers and Brielle Kemavor put up double-doubles on the night. Little-Chambers' performance added to her third consecutive double-double.
BYU will work to break its three-game losing streak as it prepares to host Arizona and Kansas in the Smith Fieldhouse next week.
