BYU women’s tennis swept Weber State, 7–0, extending the Cougars’ win streak to eight matches and kicking off a doubleheader Friday morning at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Cougars claimed the doubles point with dominant performances at No. 2 and No. 3.
Sage Bergeson and Kendall Kovick defeated Weber State’s Naomi Johnson and Savannah Johnson 6–0 at No. 2 doubles, while Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan earned a 6–0 win over Nataly Valdivia Rojas and Paulina Aleksandrowicz at No. 3.
The No. 1 doubles match between BYU’s Gracie Levelston and Karina Mohamed and Weber State’s Jessica Hill and Aleks Bozinovska was left unfinished at 3–3.
The Cougars carried that momentum into singles play.
Sage Bergeson was first off the court with a 6–0, 6–1 victory over Aleks Bozinovska at No. 4 singles, followed by Kovick’s 6–2, 6–2 win against Maggie Song at No. 2.
Gracie Levelston defeated Jessica Hill 6–4, 6–0 at No. 1, while Sue Yan Tan topped Aleksandrowicz 6–2, 6–4 at No. 3.
Bella Lewis added a 6–2, 6–0 win over Naomi Johnson at No. 5, and Karina Mohamed closed out the sweep with a 6–0, 6–2 victory against Nataly Valdivia Rojas at No. 6.
BYU improved to 10–1 overall and 3–0 at home, with its only loss coming in January.
The Cougars will face Colorado State at 5 p.m. in the second match of the doubleheader, their final competition before conference play.
