After a starting its road trip with a tough loss, the BYU women's tennis team rebounded with back-to-back match wins to close out the weekend.
Led by their their seniors, the Cougars finished their weekend road trip 2-1.
BYU faced Washington State on Friday, falling by a razor thin margin. BYU began the match with a doubles win from Bobo Huang and Grace Levelston. Sue Yan Tan and Chelsea Bluestein added wins in singles as well.
Washington State bounced back and won two out of three doubles matches as well as two of four singles matches to take the match from BYU 4-3.
Despite the loss to the start of its trip, BYU bounced back in a big way on Saturday.
BYU started Saturday with a dominant 7-0 win over Eastern Washington. The Cougars won the doubles matches, as they won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. BYU’s wins those matches forced a DNF in the No. 1 match, as the Cougars had already clinched the doubles points.
BYU carried that momentum into the singles matches where they swept all six singles matches. In fact, all six singles players won their matches in straight sets, with none of BYU’s players dropping a single set.
The 7-0 win matched BYU’s largest margin of victory this winter season, matching its 7-0 win over Weber State.
The Cougars had a quick turnaround Saturday as they had a second match with Idaho. BYU grinded out a tough 4-3 win over the Vandals.
"It's never easy playing on the road back to back weekends, and we're grateful to come out of this one with two wins," said coach Holly Hasler. "The energy and effort today was huge. I was proud of these ladies for bouncing back after such a tough loss yesterday."
BYU’s two wins on Saturday left BYU with a 2-1 record on their road trip. The Cougars improved to 4-3 after this past weekend. BYU continues their season Feb. 8 when it hosts Idaho State.
