BYU women's soccer fights for Big 12 Tournament spot as season nears end

As the Big 12 women's soccer Tournament approaches, every match matters — especially for BYU.

Only the top eight teams qualify for postseason play, and the Cougars currently sit in ninth place with 11 points.

Junior midfielder Halle Dixon has been a key contributor for the Cougars after missing last season due to injuries.

Teammate Ellie Walbruch said Dixon is always one of the first in the training room and called her “one of the best teammates you could ask for.”

She added that Dixon’s toughness and consistency bring energy and heart to the team.

Despite battling through injuries, Dixon said she’s confident in BYU’s progress.

“Overall we have a great team,” Dixon said. “We all love each other so much and work so hard for one another. It’s a young group, but we’re coming together and I feel like how we’re playing right now is just scratching the surface. Every season has its ups and downs, but the effort is there — and I know we’re in the running for sure.”

Dixon added that the team is focused on finishing strong and believes they can compete with anyone when they “stick to the process.”

BYU travels to face rival Utah Thursday to close out the regular season.

The Big 12 Championship begins Nov. 3 in Fort Worth, Texas. The championship game is set for Nov. 8.
