The BYU women's cross country team defended its Big 12 title on Friday, winning their third title in a row.
Scoring 38 points, the Cougars won by 33 points, ahead of Iowa State.
Leading the way was freshman Jane Hedengren, who won the individual title in 18:29, running the fastest time in Big 12 history.
Hedengren took the lead from the start, and never looked back. The gap from 2nd place grew from a four-second lead at the mile mark, to 45 seconds at the finish line.
Hedengren was a standout high school athlete, setting multiple national records, gaining national recognition.

Following behind Hedengren was junior Riley Chamberlain, who placed 3rd with a time of 19:15. Chamberlain is a two time national champion for the Cougars, winning the indoor track DMR national title two years in a row.
Closing out the scoring for the Cougars was sophomore Nelah Roberts, junior Taylor Lovell, and freshman Zariel Macchia, placing 10th, 11th, and 13th with times of 19:49, 19:51, and 19:53, respectively.
Following close behind was senior Carmen Alder, junior Jacey Farmer, and junior Lexi Goff, placing 17th, 19th, and 21st, respectively.
The final racers for the Cougars were Taylor Rohatinsky and Emerald Kehr placing 27th and 62nd, respectively.
Next up for the Cougars is NCAA Mountain Regionals on Nov. 14 in Salt Lake City.
