After a challenging road loss on Wednesday night, BYU women’s basketball will look to regroup Saturday afternoon as they face the Kansas State Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum.
Both teams enter the matchup coming off losses on Wednesday night. BYU fell 81–60 to Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse, while Kansas State lost 62-72 in Arizona.
BYU also fell to Arizona earlier this season, making Saturday’s matchup a huge indicator in Big 12 play.
Against Kansas, BYU stayed competitive throughout the first half before being outscored 49–28 in the second half. This has been a recurring issue for the Cougars.
They have struggled to keep the momentum and energy rolling into the second half.
The Cougars' poor shooting and lack of rebounds against Kansas also hurt them, as they were outrebounded 49–31 and limited to 30.2 percent from the field.
Despite these challenges, BYU saw encouraging production from several key contributors. Brinley Cannon led the Cougars with 13 points, knocking down three three-pointers for the second straight game.
Sydney Benally added 11 points, while Delaney Gibb finished with 10 points despite a difficult shooting night.
Olivia Hamlin continues to play an important role on both ends of the floor. As a freshman, she has become a reliable player game in and game out.
Kansas State has a balanced offensive attack led by guards Gina Garcia and Taryn Sides. Freshman Aniya Foy has also emerged as a promising freshman contributor for the Wildcats.
Saturday’s matchup will be an opportunity for both teams to respond after devastating losses. BYU will look to find success on improved rebounding, more consistent shooting, and sustaining intensity for all four quarters in one of the Big 12’s toughest road environments.
Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT, with the game streaming on ESPN+ and airing on BYU Radio.
