The last time that BYU and West Virginia played a game on the gridiron was in 2023, when West Virginia laid a beating on the Cougars 37-7.
Since then, both programs have drastically changed, and the Cougars have cemented their name amongst the best programs in the Big 12.
What will the outcome of the 2025 BYU-West Virginia matchup look like?
BYU and West Virginia through week six
It has not been an ideal start to Big 12 play for the Mountaineers in 2025. In its first two conference games, West Virginia has lost to Kansas and Utah both by over 30 points.
The Mountaineers' week one starting quarterback Nicco Marichol injured his foot against Kansas, and has been deemed out for the season. He has since announce that he will medically redshirt and enter the transfer portal following the season's end.
Backup quarterback Jaylen Henderson has been officially ruled out after leaving last week's game against Utah at halftime. Now, all eyes will be on redshirt freshman Khalil Wilkins.
Wilkins played the second half against Utah, and while he had moments where his athleticism and legs were on full display, he failed to really make a dent against Utah's starting defensive unit.
Last one. Thought Khalil Wilkins did a really good job here keeping his head up delivering a strike to @Rodney_G3 on the run! Lot to be excited about with the Mountaineers. pic.twitter.com/fwGIG3WwgI

BYU is coming off a big comeback win on the road at Colorado, which brought the Cougars' record to 4-0.
True freshman Bear Bachmeier orchestrated a beautiful comeback to win by three, and looked the most comfortable he's ever looked in his early collegiate career.
Bachmeier finished with 179 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and 98 yards on the ground.
Prediction
Anytime you have the chance to pick this BYU defense against an inexperienced quarterback at a LaVell Edwards night game, you have to pick the Cougars.
Last week after Colorado was able to move the ball with ease against BYU, the adjustments made by head coach Kalani Sitake and defensive coordinator Jay Hill stifled any momentum the Buffalo offense held.
Expect the linebacker duo of Jack Kelly and Isaiah Glasker to wreak havoc on Wilkins as he tries to utilize his speed.
