BYU swimmer Nathaniel Eliason earns second Big 12 award of the season

BYU swimmer Nathaniel Eliason was announced as the Big 12 co-newcomer of the week.

The Mechanicsville, Virginia, native earned this title after he scored 18 points in the Cougars' most recent home match against UC-Santa Barbara.

This was Eliason’s second Big 12 honor on the season. He was previously awarded Big 12 newcomer of the week at the beginning of January. The Cougars' swimming and diving teams haven been given multiple Big 12 awards this season.

Eliason specializes in freestyle and the freshman has been a huge asset to the team so far this season. During the meet against UC-Santa Barbara, in the 50 free, he clocked 20.29 to take first place. Eliason also helped out in the Cougars’ 200 medley, he had a split of 21.56 while swimming the 50 free split and helped clinch the meet during the 400-relay splitting a 44.7.

Also, in the 161-101 win over UC-Santa Barbara, Eliason also took home wins in both the 50 and 100 free.

The Cougars host Denver Saturday at 11 a.m.
