BYU swimming and diving headed to Federal Way, Washington, this past week to compete in the Big 12 Championships.
On both the men’s and women’s side, the Cougars were breaking school records left and right. Here is a look at some standout athletes.
McKenzie Miller Lung
Miller Lung swam in the 200 individual medley and clocked a school record of 1:58.27. Lung was also awarded to be on the All-Big 12 team because of her times. Lung was a standout during the tournament and also clocked records in the 100 and 200 breast and helped her 400 and 200 medley relay.
Miller Lung ended up getting third place overall for the 100 breast stroke and came in first with the 200 breast in the Big 12. Miller Lung was also invited to attend the NCAA Championships.

Nathaniel Eliason
Eliason was a dominant swimmer on the men’s team all season, and during the Big 12 meet, he showed up with a school record in the 100 free of 1:34.66. Along with this, Eliason also helped the 800 freestyle relay team come up with another school record as well. Overall, his skills in the freestyle stroke helped his 400 freestyle relay team get third overall in the Big 12.
Haley Tiffany
As a freshman, Tiffany had a sub 50 during her 100 freestyles. This was the best she had previously performed all season. Her final clock was 49.98. Tiffany also helped the women’s 800 relay team set a new school record as well.

During the tournament the Big was scouting athletes to be on their All Big 12 teams. These teams are set up to honor the athletes and their hard work that they put in during the season. This season, BYU had multiple athletes given spots on the All Big 12 teams for a variety of different events and strokes.
Even though BYU broke some school records, it ended up falling short overall. The men’s team places fifth overall with 960 points while the women’s placed seventh with 761.5 points.
The NCAA championships are next week the men’s team will compete from March 10-12 and the women’s team will compete from March 8-12. Those championships will be streamed on ESPN+.
