BYU men’s soccer completed pool play Thursday with an undefeated record, moving the Cougars on to the elimination tournament Friday and Saturday.
The Cougars faced Nebraska Thursday morning and pulled out a 4-0 win in the usual dominant display of possession BYU has been known for all year. The Cougars controlled the ball 83% of the game and took 19 shots, eight of which were on goal.
In the second game of the night, which took place at 6:30 p.m., BYU took on Boston University. The Cougars held on to win 2-1 despite a scoreless second half from both teams. The win over the Terriers cemented a first-place finish in pool A and BYU’s advancement to the elimination tournament.
Four different Cougars scored on the day but were led by Evan Smith, who scored a goal in each of the two games played Thursday. Goalkeeper Chris Jenkinson also held a clean sheet against Nebraska.
Pool play for the rest of the tournament continues Friday followed by the single-elimination tournament Friday and Saturday, with the men’s championship final on Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. CST.
