BYU men’s lacrosse opens 2026 season with intrasquad scrimmage

The men’s lacrosse team held its annual Blue vs. White scrimmage on Saturday night to kick off the upcoming season.

The Blue team won 20-11.

During the scrimmage, the lacrosse team gave a glimpse of what they hope to accomplish this season. And the expectations are high.

“Win a national championship. That’s the idea,” goalie Easton Wiokey said.

Head coach Matt Schneck was pleased with his players’ performance.

“Logan Tucker, a freshman, had an outstanding game today. Walter Fegel, he's one of the guys that played on our wings tonight and had some great ground balls and made some things happen," he said. "And then Jack Leiseth. Again, guys that we know they're really great players, but [the] things they did tonight were exceptional.”

Leiseth, who plays the defensive midfielder position, scored three goals for the Blue team.

The first two quarters of play were very competitive. The Blue team quickly scored two goals before the White team responded. White took the first lead of the night right before half time, going up 7-6.

After halftime, the Blue team took the lead and never looked back, going on a 14-4 run over the final two quarters.

Leiseth, Charlie Freedman, and Wiokey were excited by what they saw during the scrimmage.

“I think what was really shown tonight was just the firepower that we have on offense. I think there's tons of threats," Freedman said. "Although we had to split up, I think that both teams just had multiple players that were able to take the ball, dodge, and score when they needed to.”

“I think there's lots to prove, and I'm excited to see what we can do,” Leiseth added.

The men’s lacrosse team opens its season against the University of Nevada on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. inside BYU’s Indoor Practice Facility.
