The BYU men’s cross country team took 4th at the Big 12 championships on Friday in Lawrence, Kan.
The team finished behind Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Colorado.
The Cougars were led by freshman Tayvon Kitchen, who placed 15th with a time of 23:17 over the 8k course. Kitchen was a standout track athlete in high school, earning the Oregon Gatorade track athlete of the year in his senior year of high school.
Kitchen was closely followed by James Corrigan, who placed 17th with a time of 23:21. Corrigan is an NCAA champion in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase. He also represented the USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where he raced the 3000 meter steeplechase alongside his past teammate, Kenneth Rooks.

Following Corrigan was sophomore Noah Jenkins and Senior Davin Thompson. They placed 19th and 22nd with times of 23:22 and 23:25, respectively.
Closing out the race for the Cougars were Luke Grundvig, Jacob Stanford, Garrett Stanford, Dalton Mortensen, Max Davis and Carter Cunning, placing 30th, 31st, 32nd, 34th, 39th, and 43rd, respectively.
Next up for the Cougars will be NCAA Mountain Regionals on Nov. 14 in Salt Lake City.
