BYU men’s basketball drops outside top 10 in latest AP poll

The BYU men’s basketball team dropped two spots, from No. 9 to No. 11, in the most recent AP poll.

Despite riding a 12-game winning streak – including most recently a 28-point win over Arizona State and a road victory against rival Utah – BYU fell the same number of spots as Michigan, which suffered a home loss Saturday against Wisconsin, a team BYU beat 98-70 to open its current streak.

Nonetheless, the Cougars will have plenty of opportunities to climb the ranks before January is over. BYU has matchups with No. 15 Texas Tech, No. 1 Arizona and a highly anticipated matchup between potential No. 1 overall NBA draft picks AJ Dybantsa and Kansas’ Darryn Peterson on Jan. 31 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Since suffering its lone loss on the season to Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies, BYU’s big three – Dybantsa, Richie Saunders and Baylor transfer Rob Wright – have averaged a combined 60 points per game and assisted on 154 of BYU’s 204 made field goals.
