BYU gymnastics head coach Guard Young was informed by athletic director Brian Santiago that his contract to coach women’s gymnastics in Provo will not be renewed for the coming season.
Young coached the Cougars for 11 seasons. During his time at BYU, Young led the Cougars to six top-25 final rankings on the national scale, along with making NCAA regionals every season, including three consecutive seasons in which the Cougars advanced to the second round (2024-26).
Young was named the 2026 Big 12 Coach of the Year. He was also ranked No. 1 in the MRGC for three consecutive seasons (2019-22) before joining the Big 12 conference. Young has coached three NCAA Nationals individual qualifiers since being at BYU.
Prior to coaching at BYU, Young served as assistant men’s gymnastics coach at the University of Oklahoma from 2000-05 and from 2011-15.
BYU gymnastics will lead a national search for Young’s replacement in hopes to elevate the program.
