BYU looking for another big performance from Delaney Gibb to take down Amari Whiting, Oklahoma State

After a three-game stretch at home, the BYU women’s basketball team heads back on the road for a key Big 12 matchup in Stillwater, Okla.

The Cougars will face Oklahoma State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. MST.

Oklahoma State currently sits fifth in the Big 12 standings.

Oklahoma State enters the matchup in a similar position, coming off a 14-point loss to Colorado on Sunday that snapped a three-game winning streak.

Former BYU guard Amari Whiting will face her former team for the first time on Wednesday, now wearing orange and black for Oklahoma State. Since transferring to Oklahoma State, Whiting has earned a consistent role in the rotation and posted multiple career highs for the Cowboys.

It will be interesting for former teammates like Delaney Gibb, Sydney Benally and Marya Hudgins to meet Whiting on the other side of the court.

BYU enters the matchup coming off a loss to West Virginia, despite a season-high 28-point performance from Gibb. The Cougars struggled to protect the ball, committing 25 turnovers, which led to 29 Mountaineer points.

Improved ball security will be key as the Cougars look to bounce back on the road in Wednesday’s matchup against a team that thrives off takeaways.

Gibb has emerged as BYU’s primary offensive weapon, recording her fourth 20-plus point performance last week, and her ability to sustain that production will be critical against a top-five Big 12 opponent.

Oklahoma State is 28–2 at home over the past two seasons, making Gallagher-Iba Arena one of the toughest environments in the Big 12.

Oklahoma State’s Stailee Heard is a force to be reckoned with. Over the last five games, she has averaged 20.8 points.

The Cougars will need to start fast to disrupt Oklahoma State’s offensive rhythm early in the game. The Cowgirls were unable to catch up to Colorado in Boulder after they took off in the first four minutes.

Oklahoma State’s home-court advantage and defensive pressure will test BYU early, but the Cougars have shown their resilience on the road before.

Improved ball security and another strong performance from Gibb could be the difference as BYU looks to make a statement in Stillwater.
