The Big 12 released the 2025 football schedule Tuesday morning, including all of BYU's games.
Perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of the Cougars' schedule this fall is the rivalry game against Utah.
In the second year of the 16-team conference, BYU is slated to host the Utes on Oct. 18 at LaVell Edwards Stadium — surprisingly early in comparison with the history of this rivalry.
As longtime conference opponents in the Western Athletic Conference and Mountain West, the rivalry game always took place in mid-to-late November.
This will be the first year since 1967 that the rivalry game will take place before November as conference opponents. Last November, BYU edged Utah 22-21 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Another game that is circled on the calendar is the rematch of the Alamo Bowl between BYU and Colorado on Sept. 27 in Boulder. This is another surprisingly early matchup, with the rematch taking place at the start of Big 12 play for the Cougars.
Coach Prime and company will have an early opportunity to avenge the Alamo Bowl loss at home.
BYU will have an early bye week in week three of the season, followed by six games before the next bye in week 10. In 2024, the Cougars’ longest stretch before a bye week was five games to begin the season.
This season, four of the aforementioned six-game stretch will be on the road which will arguably be BYU’s toughest, with notable matchups with Utah at home, at Colorado and at Iowa State.
After surprising the country with their success last season, finishing 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the Big 12, the Cougars will look to replicate or better their win total from 2024.
BYU ended its 2024 campaign ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and will likely be a favorite to make the Big 12 title game with the production returning from last year’s team.
