BYU's reigning men and women's cross country Big 12 champions are preparing to compete at the 2025 Big 12 championships on Friday in Lawrence, Kansas.
In 2024, the women's team won the title with 41 points, beating second place by 19 points. The Cougars will have three out of the five scorers from last year's race returning — Riley Chamberlain, Taylor Rohatinsky and Carmen Alder. They placed 6th, 7th, and 10th with times of 19:54, 19:55, and 19:58, respectively, in last year's 6k race.
The men’s team also won the title with 41 points, 11 points ahead of second place, Oklahoma State. The team will have no returning point scorers, but last year’s No. 6 racer Davin Thompson and No. 8 Luke Grundvig, who placed 15th and 30th with times of 22:51 and 23:23, respectively, are set to race.
The women's team is projected to defend their title as Big 12 cross country champions, while also chasing the women's Big 12 individual title. The men’s team is projected to place 3rd according to the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, behind Iowa State and Oklahoma State.
The races will be streamed on ESPN+ with the men’s race starting at 9 a.m. MDT and the women’s race starting at 10 a.m. MDT.
