BYU baseball wins another close game against Washington State

BYU baseball picked up another tight win Friday afternoon, holding off Washington State 5-4 at Blair Field to continue a strong weekend in Southern California.

The Cougars stayed composed in a back-and-forth game that came down to the final innings. BYU scratched across key runs late and leaned on timely pitching to close things out, securing its second straight win over Washington State in the series.

Washington State struck early, putting pressure on BYU’s pitching staff, but the Cougars responded with steady offense throughout the middle innings. BYU stayed aggressive at the plate and capitalized on scoring chances to keep the game within reach.

The turning point came late as BYU pushed across the go ahead run and then shut the door defensively. The bullpen delivered in high stake moments, preventing Washington State from completing a comeback attempt in the ninth inning.

The win improved BYU’s momentum during its road stretch at Blair Field, where several games were decided by narrow margins. The Cougars showed resilience again, winning another one run game against a competitive Washington State squad.

BYU improved its early season record with the victory and continued building confidence heading into the rest of the weekend slate in Long Beach. The Cougars previously defeated Washington State 6-4 earlier in the series before adding Friday’s 5-4 win.

BYU returns to action looking to carry the momentum forward as the season continues toward conference play.
