BYU baseball lost game three of its series in Waco, Texas, against the Baylor Bears, giving up three runs in Saturday’s matchup.
After a scoreless three innings, the Bears struck first with a right-field single bringing in two runs. A sacrifice fly from the following batter put them ahead of BYU 3-0 moving into the fifth.
BYU’s Patrick Graham responded with an RBI double, sending Keoni Painter home and giving the Cougars their first run of the game. After a center-field single from Bryker Hurdsman, Painter was tagged out at home, ending the fifth inning with Baylor ahead 3-1.
Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Cougars earned six hits on 31 at-bats, with Painter leading the team with two. BYU pitching held the Bears to just four hits, which proved not enough for Baylor’s hot fourth inning.
Ashton Johnson led the Cougars with six strikeouts while giving up three of four hits. Cayson Bell, who opened on the mound, had just one strikeout and gave up the Bears’ only other hit.
BYU returns to Utah County for a matchup at Utah Valley on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. MDT.
