BYU and Kansas battle for Big 12 Tournament seeding this weekend

After clinching a spot in the Big 12 Tournament last week against Texas Tech, BYU looks to improve its seeding with a big-time series this weekend against top-ranked Kansas at Larry H. Miller Field.

The Cougars currently sits in eighth place in the Big 12 Conference and could potentially jump up depending on the outcome of this weekend’s series. BYU is currently two games back of the Cincinnati Bearcats going into the series.

The Cougars look to continue their momentum after a 13-3 win in seven innings against the Utah Valley Wolverines.

Kansas is looking to bounce back after getting swept by West Virginia in a three-game series in which they only scored a combined five runs.

West Virginia is now only one game back of Kansas after sweeping them last week, so Jayhawks will need a strong performance this weekend if they want to hold onto the No. 1 seed for the Big 12 Tournament.

Players to look out for on the Jayhawks include Tyson Leblanc, who leads the team in virtually every hitting category, batting .330 on the season. Cade Baldridge has done his own damage for the Jayhawks, leading the team in hits and batting .321 on the season.

BYU will need a solid pitching effort to take down the Jayhawks this weekend.

BYU’s Ezra McNaughton said after the Utah Valley win that “we need all the momentum we can going into the weekend series against Kansas.”

Look for a motivated Cougar squad this weekend as they look to finish Big 12 play on a high note.
