An injury update on former BYU players in the NFL, including the return of Puka Nacua

Several former BYU standouts in the NFL are battling injuries that have reshaped their seasons and tested the Cougars’ growing professional pipeline.

Fred Warner, the All-Pro linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle in Week 6. The team confirmed he underwent surgery and is not expected to return this year. Warner was on pace for another standout campaign before the injury.

Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua has made a successful return after missing time with an ankle sprain and rib injury. In his first game back, Nacua caught seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, providing a much-needed spark for the Rams’ offense.

Elsewhere, offensive lineman Brady Christensen of the Carolina Panthers remains sidelined with a torn Achilles after an impressive start to the season. Indianapolis Colts tackle Blake Freeland was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August after showing early promise during training camp.

Despite the setbacks, BYU’s NFL alumni continue to draw attention for their toughness and resilience, reflecting the same grit that defined their college careers in Provo.
