Eating Healthy in College

Eating healthy in college is difficult for students due to insufficient funds, time restraints, and a lack of knowledge.

but there are many resources available to those who want to improve their lifestyle.

Overcoming these obstacles is difficult for students,

Even though college students are on a tight budget, there are things that they can do to add more fruits and vegetables in their diet.

Gene Ahlborn

Associate professor of Nutrition, Dietetics & Food Science at BYU

"Think fruit first!"

"Go green! Add some color to your plate every meal."

Students who are struggling with finding time to cook can meal prep to save time during the week with school, homework, and work.

Meal prepping also ensures that students are getting their nutritional value on a daily basis.

BYU junior, Samantha Webb says, “It is a lot easier during the week when my sister and I meal prep."

Ahlborn suggests that college students take a nutrition course in order to learn more about how to properly fuel and feed their bodies.

A lot of students are confused about how many fruits, vegetables, carbs, fats, and protein they actually need on a daily basis.

BYU senior, Chasia Webb, says, “I really wish I had been able to take a nutrition class my freshman year."

Sarah Bellini, associate professor of Nutrition, Dietetics & Food Science at BYU, recommends students take it one change at a time.
