Allegiant and Breeze are two budget airlines that operate out of the Provo Airport. For a limited two-hour window each week, they sell tickets in person to comply with federal regulations for travelers who may not have internet access.
Those in-person fares are cheaper because they skip the processing fees added to online purchases, and sometimes include additional discounts as well.
Matt Jensen has been the operations manager at the Provo Airport for four years now and has used the deal himself. He said tickets can be anywhere from $40-$100 off.
Sales generally go from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for Breeze on Tuesdays and 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for Allegiant on Sundays. Times may vary so it is important to check on the airlines websites beforehand to make sure.
Some people will show up 1-2 hours before to wait in line with camping chairs.
“They've been here for an hour or two because the airlines will cut it off right at the end of their time, whether you've been served or not,” Jensen said.
Felicia Walton has used this hack a few times now and has learned a few things along the way.
She suggests looking online beforehand to see if it is worth your time and money.
“When you go to book it online, you can click on the thing that says taxes and fees, and it'll tell you how much you would take off, which is that technology fee,” Walton said.
She also says to come prepared with everyone’s name, birthday and other necessary information and to make your breeze or allegiant account beforehand.
She saved about 88 dollars per person on her purchase, making it worth her time.
