Murals of downtown Provo: the art that brings Provo to life

The art that brings Provo to life: Murals of downtown

Downtown Provo is more than just a street of stores … It's a living art gallery!

The area is home to more than 30 murals. The bright and colorful artworks deck the walls of local shops and alleyways.

These creative pieces highlight local artists and help turn blank walls into public art. Many of the murals were past projects from the Downtown Provo Monthly Mural Program.

Over the years, these murals have helped shape downtown into a space that feels fun, creative and welcoming. This is something that locals say makes Provo stand out.

David Chappell has lived in Provo for almost seven years.

“Murals are really important to creating a space that feels welcoming to people. If it was just a blank wall, not that it would be boring — but having art here really attracts people,” Chappell said.

But the murals aren’t just for locals. Visitors say they reveal the culture and color that make Provo stand out.

Lorena Azcué was visiting Provo from her home in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Azcué felt that the murals were a way for people to showcase their art and express their feelings. She finds it amazing that there is such a beautiful way for people to express themselves and share their stories.

Azcué also said that it was amazing to discover so much colorful culture in Provo, and said it was a place where people could express themselves through paintings.

From local pride to cultural expression, each mural adds a piece to Provo’s story one wall at a time.

For everyone who visits, these murals are painting Provo in a brand new light.
