The Missionary Training Center will soon undergo a renovation, rebuilding the cafeteria and administration building.
The number of missionaries at the MTC has increased, and the campus is getting crowded.
“A few months ago, there was a record number of missionaries getting here in one week, and so if numbers keep growing like that, then we're definitely going to need more space," said Brandt Peterson, an MTC teacher.
The MTC was constructed in 1978. Since then, more buildings have been added to the campus.
Ali Morton, an MTC teacher, explained that the cafeteria needs some updates.
“You can definitely tell it's been around for a while. Just even like the tile. You're like, yeah, this is clearly from the 90s,” she said.
She often eats with her missionaries and said the cafeteria is very busy.
“Especially during the summer months, it's just wall to wall missionaries and the lines are super long and it just does not fit all the missionaries that it has," she said.
Morton said even just 30 minutes can impact a missionary's schedule.
“A lot of times our missionaries come into class late because the lines in the MTC cafeteria are pretty long," Peterson said.
Renovations will help the MTC support missionary work as it continues to evolve.
