Boxing is a sport that mixes high-intensity interval training, mental determination and focus.
"A lot of people think boxing is just throwing hands. I mean, that's street fighting. That's bar fighting. We're not here to street fight, we're here to really learn the sport," Mark Simpson, Legends Boxing gym coach, said.
Boxing became an organized sport in 1888 and provides competitive opportunities for many men and women. The USA boxing mission statement says it strives to teach participants the character, confidence and focus they need to become resilient.
The world of boxing can be personalized, whether one wants to progress towards sparring or getting in the ring. The sport has competition involved, but is mainly about pushing oneself and having fun.
"I hope that the boxers in my class at the end of the day, come away having a good time and it's a positive experience so they come back," Simpson said.
