The community welcomed the new Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center during a grand opening May 22 in Ogden, Utah.

The new center was built to meet the increasing demand for services that protect children from abuse in Weber and Morgan counties. Several organizations, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, donated to the cause.

“These centers are really the front lines for when there has been terrible abuse or issues with kids in their lives,” Utah Attorney General Derek Brown said.

The Church of Jesus Christ was a major contributor to the center and its mission.

Tracey Tabet, program manager for the Utah Children’s Justice Center, expressed her gratitude to the Church during the ceremony.

“To The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which (we have) collaborated with since 2015, thank you for supporting our work and investing in Utah’s children,” Tabet said.

Church leaders toured the center on the day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Colorful artwork and toys line the walls to create an environment intended to help children feel safe, protected and comfortable.

“Children aren’t necessarily weak, but they are vulnerable, and we have a responsibility to be their advocates and their protectors,” said Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor in the Primary general presidency.

Church leaders said the center's mission aligns with the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ.

“It’s so important for us to remember how critical it is for all of us to stand against abuse,” said President Emily Belle Freeman, Young Women general president.

The Church of Jesus Christ has expressed its desire to continue supporting the Children's Justice Center. They have additionally donated $300,000 to help the center purchase a second location.
