BYU Museum of Art hosts The Sense of Beauty exhibit

The BYU Museum of Art recently unveiled a new exhibit titled "The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting." It is available for all to appreciate until January 2026.

The collection, originally from Puerto Rico's Museo de Ponce, is making its way across the U.S. one gallery at a time. With art from Europe, Puerto Rico and North America, it has something for everyone to enjoy.

The exhibit was unveiled on July 31 at a special VIP showing. Now, it is completely open to the public free of charge.

"We have a collection of 60 masterpieces," Iraida Rodrguez-Negrn, Museo de Ponce curator, said. "Many of them, probably which you have never known, but many of them that probably you're going to stand in front of that and say, 'I know this painting, or at least I know this artist.'"

Viewers can appreciate a wide variety of art, from religious pieces to scenes of mythical tales and snapshots of nature.

"The signature piece of this show is Frederick Lord Leightons 'Flaming June' painting," Riley Lewis, MOA public relations manager, said. "It features a woman in an orange dress and its just captured hearts for over a century."

Directors said "Flaming June" is likely the most famous piece ever to come to the MOA. Hanging in the display case along with myriad other masterworks, it invites all to come together and be inspired.

"The Sense of Beauty" will be on display until Jan. 3, 2026.
