An Air India passenger jet carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, slamming into a dining facility for medical students near the airport and bursting into flames. Police have reported at least 290 people were killed, including passengers aboard the aircraft and individuals on the ground. The flight was heading to London Gatwick Airport when it went down.
