The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launches 2026 Easter initiative 'Greater Love'

For the second consecutive year, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has extended an invitation to its members for the Easter season to remember the meaning of greater love and to share that love with others.

This years Easter theme is based on John 15:13, which reads, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The purpose of the theme is to remember the meaning of the Easter season and to commemorate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Sister Tamara W. Runia, first counselor in the Young Women general presidency, said, We often talk about Christs atonement being infinite, and I love that description of the atonement. But tonight I want to point out that infinite atonement was motivated by His infinite love, this greater love that is as wide as the sky and as deep as the ocean."

The Greater Love initiative invites everyone to find examples of greater love in their own lives and share those messages with others.

Through these deeds and actions, the goal is for greater love to be felt and shared.

The Easter theme focuses on Jesus Christs ultimate sacrifice in giving His life for His friends. It centers on the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the message that there is hope for the hopeless.

At the event, Maddi Davis said that even though she doesn't currently practice in the Church, she still finds great meaning in celebrating Easter.

Easter is the reason that we have the atonement. We were able to repent for our sins and I think its a really good message for anyone that may be struggling to know that you can always come back, and Hes always there for you, Davis said. I think thats what Easters about. About love and about being able to love everyone.

The theme of greater love is meant to bring people together people of all faiths, ethnicities and ways of life. It is intended to foster unity in faith and hope in Jesus Christ.

Through this initiative, the hope is that the spirit of charity and Christlike love will be shared and felt by all.

Kiana Stanclift, a content creator who posts content related to the Church and her faith, shared her thoughts on the Easter season.

Jesus really does love every single one of His children, and He felt and bled from every single pore for all of His sheep. And He will always come and find us, and Easter is just the perfect way to be grateful, and celebrate, and be close to our Savior and king every day, Stanclift said.

This Easter season, all are invited to share the message of greater love, both in their own lives and in giving the gift of greater love to others.
