BYU teaches more language courses than any college in the United States

Brigham Young University now offers an astounding 84 non-English language courses more than any other U.S. university. Among BYUs offerings are some of the worlds rarer languages, including Hmong, Navajo, Kiribati and several Central American indigenous languages.

Returned missionaries contribute to this high enrollment. BYU helps them hone their skills and prepare for lifelong learning and service.

BYU provides many language opportunities outside of a degree, including a language certificate recognized by ACTFL, year-round immersive language housing, language study abroad programs and service opportunities.

TikTok sensation: BYU alum Gary Brotherson's Journey back to dance

Gary Brotherson, a BYU alum, now has 2.1 million TikTok followers. He is known for his energetic dance videos.

The viral sensation said his love of dance started early in life. Brotherson graduated from BYU in 2002 with a degree in composite dance. When his career took him in the direction of interior design and sales representation, dance fell to the side.

While his daughter, London, prepared to leave for her mission, she encouraged him to pick up dancing again. Brotherson has danced with Cosmo the Cougar and continues to love what BYU has done for him.

BYU law students win national competition

BYU law students Erica Lovell and Jason Collyer won the coveted American Bar Association MAC Cup for the BYU Law School. They competed against 64 student teams in mock negotiations and acquisition agreement markups.

The two reached the championships, where Lovell received the Best Negotiator award. She and Collyer each took home $7,500 in prize money.

The ABA launched the competition in 2023 to provide law school students with opportunities to learn and apply transactional skills, mirroring the litigation opportunities students receive through traditional moot court competitions.
