Flourishing entrepreneur: How one student manages college life with business hustle

Balancing school and work is never easy, but one Brigham Young University student has taken their ambitions outside of the classroom and said her success smells an awful lot like flowers.

While most students are studying for exams, she is also running a business. Meghan Hendershot is the owner of Flutter Florals.

Being a business owner while being in school has really helped me learn how to lean into my schoolwork and appreciate the growth process and learning more, Hendershot said.

For Hendershot, a full course load doesnt mean putting dreams on hold. She started her wedding floral business, Flutter Florals, to pursue her budding hobby.

I've always loved flowers in the spring and summer, and I wanted to become better at floral arranging," Hendershot said.

What started as helping one friends request for her wedding arrangements turned into a full-time, successful business.

After that wedding, it sparked something in me, Hendershot said. As I invested a lot of time and research and networking, it started getting bigger and bigger and then last summer we did 50 weddings.

Hendershot said that, though difficult to do, she has actually become a better student through creating her business.

I had to learn about finances and networking and do my own accounting I found that I can learn in a more enriched type of way," Hendershot said.

Hendershot also said it's her faith that has made the balance between work and school manageable.

I feel like as I've prioritized my discipleship that has been a game changer in helping me balance everything, its hard, but you can do it with god," Hendershot said.

As for whats next, Meghan Hendershot is excited for both her future as a student and business owner.
