New exhibition encourages Provo to 'Remember the Ladies'

Paint, pottery and womanhood came to life in the Remember the Ladies exhibition in Provo.

For the month of May, the JKR Gallery featured art exclusively created by women artists. The theme came from a revolutionary times letter Abigail Adams wrote to her husband, John Adams.

"Abigail Adams is one of the most incredible founding mothers and 1776-era lady, Candace Brown, the JKR Gallery co-director, said.

Inspired by the theme of womanhood, artists were given liberty to create anything they felt represented femininity.

"We give them the option to make something for the exhibit. We don't know what we are getting until we get it, Elizabeth Mallory, JKR Gallery Assistant, said.

Pieces in the gallery include oil paintings, hanging mobiles, felt pictures and 3D works. All the pieces are available for purchase in-person and online. Gallery staff hopes people feel encouraged after visiting the gallery.

I hope that they can feel seen an empowered in their own journey, regardless of whether they are men or women, Mallory shared. I hope they can feel that they are loved and seen.
