Women's Conference begins 50th year

The 50th annual Women's Conference kick off

The BYU Women's Conference began this past week with thousands of women gathering on campus to get closer to Christ.

The conference ran from April 29 through May 1, with speakers and activities centered around the theme, "May we arise and shine forth as women of light."

Noteworthy speakers include Young Women General Presidency First Counselor Sister Tamara W. Runia, Sheri Dew, General Relief Society President Camille N. Johnson and Elder David A. Bednar.

With more than thirty activities, speakers and events each day, it can be difficult to narrow down the options. Attendee Janice Given shared she looks forward to several speakers and service activities.

“John Bytheway is always one we try to find and he’ll be there tomorrow night," Given said.

Given has been attending Women's Conference since 1993 and shared that the best part is growing closer to her sisters and Jesus Christ.

“Really, it’s more for us to be together as sisters. I have five sisters here with me, all from different parts of the country,” Given said.

Debbie Neff is attending conference for the first time and states that she's excited to hear from women leaders of the Church.

“I think it’s different when you get to hear the [Young] Women's Presidency and Relief Society Presidency in person and they’re speaking just to the women. I think that’s going to be really cool," Neff said.

This year's Women's Conference also highlighted the past 50 years, showcasing what has been accomplished since its beginning.

“This is the 50th year of Women's Conference. It’s come a long way. We are setting up an exhibit that people can walk through and just kind of relive the 50 years," Neff said.
