Students went crazy over the blue foam at the BYU True Blue Foam event at the Helaman Fields on Sept. 24.
They lined up, waited for their turn and glided into clouds of blue foam.
Dillon Atkinson, a BYU masters student, has been studying at BYU for five years and this was his first time sliding through the foam.
“It was awesome. I went down and my full face just got covered in foam and could barely breathe for a second but then just had a good time sliding down," he said.
The Student Connection and Leadership Center website said the foam is made from a product called “Foam Daddy” and a dye called “Hi-Light Blue.”
Joel Jackson, a freshman at BYU, plummeted through the foam five times.
“The foam build up at the end was nice. I got to stand up and look like a snowman basically, which was great," he said.
The foam is nontoxic and washes out, but students had to shower off before they left.
Triton Laviter, BYUSA activities director, started planning the event back in May. He said it took more than 100 people to make this tradition happen this year.
“It takes a lot of people from a lot of different places to make something like this happen, or any event that we run happen. It's impressive," he said.
Laviter said that the event introduced freshman students to BYU. It was an opportunity to take a break from schoolwork and have fun.
Students of all ages went to show their cougar spirit. It was a great way to start the year off with a bang.
